OWC is one of Florida's 28 public community colleges and is
accredited to award Associate and Bachelor degrees, short term
technical and vocational certificates and applied technology
diplomas. OWC also offers adult basic education, high school
equivalency instruction, English-as-a-Second Language, non-credit
continuing education, retirement learning and customized training
for business and industry. OWC’s six campuses and centers offer
extensive day, evening and weekend classes in 9 terms per year
(three regular terms and six fast-track terms). OWC tuition is among
the lowest in Florida. Active duty military and their dependents
stationed in Florida qualify for in-state fees. Residents of Alabama
qualify for border state fees—the in-state fee plus a nominal fee.
Florida public higher education institutions share a common course
numbering system. The A.A. degree provides full transfer of credit
for those students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree. Students
may specialize in an A.A. degree to meet the specific pre-requisite
requirements of more than 200 Florida bachelor degree programs.
In addition to the 264-acre Niceville Campus, OWC operates a joint
campus with the University of West Florida in Fort Walton Beach. OWC
also operates the Chautauqua Center in DeFuniak Springs, the Robert
L.F. Sikes Education Center in Crestview, and centers at Eglin AFB
and Hurlburt Field.
OWC serves approximately 15,000 students annually. About 45 percent
of students are age 24 and under, 24 percent of students are age 25
to 34 and 24 percent are age 35 to 49.
OWC offers an extensive Distance Learning Program through which
students may earn credit in nearly 80 different college classes,
through online or text-based instruction.
The Arts Center on the Niceville campus houses the popular A.A. to
B.A. Humanities Interdisciplinary Program offered in conjunction
with UWF.
